APS is one of many publishers that are partners in the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL). IVSL provides free access to scientific journals to institutions in Iraq.
ICTP's electronic Journals Delivery Service (eJDS)
APS supports the electronic Journals Delivery Service (eJDS), which is administered by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). This service is aimed at providing access to scientists at institutions in developing countries that do not have access to sufficient bandwidth, thus, making it impossible or too difficult to download material from the Internet. Through eJDS, scientists receive individual mathematics and physics journal articles via e-mail.
Free On-line Access for Sub-Saharan Africa & Bangladesh
The American Physical Society is now offering free on-line access to its journals for institutions located in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as Bangladesh. Beginning in 2006 through 2011, not-for-profit institutions located in eligible countries can register to gain online access to APS journals. This offer is made available through the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications’ (INASP) Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI). Through PERI, researchers in developing and transitional countries can access international, scholarly literature from a wide range of disciplines. How is it determined which countries can receive free access?
Countries are selected for participation in PERI based on its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and/or the Human Development Index (HDI). The American Physical Society began its participation in PERI by offering access to PERI participating countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and subsequently added Bangladesh.
I am a librarian, how do I register my institution for access?
Please go to the PERI registration page to learn how you can gain access. You should select to browse by country, select your country, then choose a resource and follow the instructions from there.You will need to know the IP range of your Institute in order for your users to gain automatically authenticated access and for you to gain usage data specific to your Institute. If this is impossible, access is also available for those without a permanently assigned IP range through Username /Password.
I am a user, how do I gain access?
If you are at an institution please check whether your librarian/IT department has set access for the computer you are using. Access is controlled via IP addresses entered within the institutional administrative system. Please contact your librarian or check the INASP registration database if you are in any doubt.

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) is a development charity that has been working to enhance worldwide access to information since 1992. Our vision is that all people are able to access and contribute information, ideas and knowledge necessary for sustainable and equitable development. We work in partnership with individuals and organizations (both international and in-country) to facilitate access to information, to build skills in using, managing and producing information, and to encourage networking and the sharing of knowledge and resources. To achieve our goals, we produce print and online resources, we design and assist training workshops, we negotiate for preferential online access to scholarly information, and we undertake research and provide information and advice on all information-for-development issues.
INASP undertakes a variety of programmes in response to locally identified needs and requests. Capacity strengthening and sustainability are central to all our activities.
