About St. Louis and the Hyatt/Adams Mark Hotel

St. Louis received the 2006 World Leadership Award for Urban Renewal. The hotel is conveniently located in the downtown area, close to restaurants, shops and LaClede’s Landing, a focus of the city’s activity.

Note: The Adams Mark Hotel has been sold and is now the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront Hotel.  New phone numbers are listed on the Housing page.

The April Meeting 2008 of the American Physical Society will take place in St. Louis, Missouri at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront Hotel (formerly Adams Mark Hotel) in downtown St. Louis. The April Meeting will be held in conjunction with the meeting of HEDP/HEDLA. All scientific sessions and ancillary activities will take place in the Hyatt Riverfront Hotel.  Note: The HEDP/HEDLA meeting starts Friday, April 11.  The April Meeting starts Saturday, April 12.

Ground Transportation

Attendees can take the Metro from the airport to downtown for $3.00. The airport shuttle is also a means to get downtown to your hotel. Click on the site below to see the shuttle schedule and print out the coupon. A $2.00 discount is available to April attendees.

Childcare Grants

Small grants of $200 are available to assist meeting attendees who are bringing small children. Please complete the Application for Child Care Grant and submit it by fax to the number on the form. Applications must be received by February 29 to be considered by a subcommittee of the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics (CSWP). In the event that the number of requests for grants exceeds the funding available, preference will be given to applicants in the early stages of their careers. If you are interested in childcare sharing, you may also use the Bulletin Board to connect with other parents.

Parents/Children Quiet Room

At the April Meeting APS will designate a small room for parents who bring young children to the meeting. The purpose of the room is to provide a quiet place for parents of infants and young children to come for quiet time and relaxation with their children. This is not intended to be a playroom. No toys will be available.The room will be furnished with comfortable furniture and water.

APS Membership Booth

The APS Membership Department staff will be on hand to answer questions about APS Membership, journal subscriptions and other new services.

Student Lounge

Have a little down time? Stop by the APS Student Lounge to connect with fellow students. Society literature and refreshments will be available. The Lounge will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday through Monday.

Contact Congress

Stopping by the Contact Congress booth to sign your name to letters to your Congressional delegation on the importance of federal funding for basic research. It takes only a minute.

Exhibits

Due to an increase in the program and demand for space at the conference hotel, there is not adequate space for exhibits at this meeting. If you wish to send fliers regarding your company and its products, you may do so. Do not send books, journals or magazines – just fliers. Send fliers (ONLY) to APS, One Physics Ellipse, College Park, MD 20740; attention Donna Baudrau.

APS is sponsoring free wireless throughout the hotel.

Email service for April Meeting attendees will be available during registration hours only:

APS offers email access to attendees as a service. We cannot provide unlimited access to e-mail stations, both in terms of the number of email stations available for use and the time they are available.

Online Personal Meeting Scheduler

Attendees planning to attend the April Meeting can pre-plan their schedules by using the "shopping cart" feature of the electronic web program. This service allows the attendee to view the program, select the sessions and talks desired, deposit this information in a personal meeting schedule, and then print out the schedule. The electronic program will be posted to the web in February and the scheduler feature will also be available for use at that time.
