The American Physical Society, a leading publisher of scientific journals, based in Suffolk County, LI, (LIE exit 68 - near Brookhaven National Laboratory) seeks a Programmer/Analyst. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small team that is responsible for building dynamic web applications for scholarly publishing.
Requirements:
- Experience with full lifecycle development in Ruby, Python, Perl, or PHP.
- Excellent object oriented design and implementation skills.
- Strong unix skills (Linux/FreeBSD/Mac OS X preferred).
- Experience building dynamic websites with MVC frameworks (Rails, Mason, Django, Zope, etc.).
- Experience configuring web servers and deploying applications (Apache, lighttpd, Tomcat, etc.).
- Knowledge of XHTML, CSS, Javascript.
- Strong SQL skills (MySQL preferred).
- Knowledge of test/behavior driven development and tools (Test::Unit, RSpec, JUnit, etc.).
Bonus points:
- Experience with O/R mapping tools such as ActiveRecord or Hibernate.
- Experience with XML, XSLT, XPath.
- Some experience with Java.
- Experience with developing AJAX driven applications (especially using the jQuery library).
- Experience using the Drupal content management system.
- Agile development practices: test first, automated builds, rapid prototyping, etc.
