Olympic Gold in PhysicsFrom Physics Boot Camp to Hanoi Photo courtesy of AAPTThe U.S. Physics Team's five student members won four gold medals and one silver at the 39th International Physics Olympiad—only the second time the United States has earned four gold medals. Team candidates were selected from a national pool and attended physics training camp before traveling to Hanoi, Vietnam. In Hanoi, students competed in theoretical and experimental exams. The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) managed all aspects of the U.S. team. The American Institute of Physics (AIP) supported students with financial aid and publicity.
